Iranian Calligraphy (Persian Calligraphy)
Many would argue that true Iranian calligraphy was born after the integration of Islam into Persia in the 7th century. Due to the Islamic cultural change and decreased prevalence of Zoroastrianism, the Arabic alphabet was adopted to accompany Farsi, and an additional four characters were created to facilitate the extra sounds that speaking Farsi required.
Iranian Calligraphy (Persian Calligraphy) is a highly disciplined and evolved art form, with different styles being added over centuries. Iranian calligraphy is such a prized art form that in 1950 an organization called Iran’s Association of Calligraphers was created for the professional artists in the country. The evolution of Iranian calligraphy can be compared to the different movements that occur in the art world; certain styles have been popular at different times, with Shekasteh Nastaliq being the most revered over time.
FarsiGallery.com is a platform for Iranian artists as well as Iranian visual art (Persian visual art) that include Calligraphy, Graphics Art, Persian Miniature, Painting, Photography, Sculpture and Short Films.
Design Calligraphy
The intricate designs and patterns of calligraphy have designated it as a highly revered and sought after art form all over the world. While the designs of a calligraphy piece typically vary from one culture/language to another, there is a consistent use of form, style, precision and tradition in creating a beautiful piece of calligraphy art, no matter where the origin. The traditional influences on design, in most cases stretch back hundreds of years, with different personal interpretations of these influences creating artistic movements within the history of the respective culture’s calligraphy timeline.
